‘Girl Meets World’: Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel reprising roles of Cory, Topanga

If you were even remotely a fan of “Boy Meets World,” and you don’t mind the universe of the show being brought back from the dead, the following bit of news is sure to make you smile.

According to a new report from TVLine, both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are going to reprise their roles as the classic characters of Cory and Topanga for the new “Girl Meets World” series, which is currently in the pilot phase over at the Disney Channel. Given that the series still features these characters in a prominent role in the show, it was almost a given that they would be returning; however, isn’t it still nice to hear that their names are signed on the dotted line?

For those of you who have not heard the awesome news just yet, “Girl Meets World” is going to jump forward many years after the end of the original show, as Cory and Topanga are now not only married, but are parents to a 13-year old daughter named Riley. The story here will be told largely from her perspective as she tries her best to navigate the ins and outs of life as a modern-day teenager. (Quite a bit has changed since when Cory was this age, that’s for sure.)

As for who will be playing Riley, this much is still an unknown, as producers are currently in the midst of a nationwide casting search to find the right leading lady for the part. To us, everything seems spectacular about this show at the moment with one key exception: the network. Wouldn’t ABC Family be such a better fit for the show? Our only fear is that many longtime fans of “Boy Meets World” don’t watch the Disney Channel, and are going to have to look harder for news about the premiere date if the show makes it past the first phase. Then again, maybe the idea here is to appeal to people who are Riley’s age rather than just nostalgic older fans.

Regardless of the network, how excited are you about this pilot right now?
