‘Saturday Night Live’ notes: Kenan Thompson and Guy Fieri
Following what may have been the weakest show over of “Saturday Night Live” this season with Jeremy Renner as the host, we now have some other stories coming out that will hopefully get your mind off of some of the bad sketches … though we’re sure that the first one will at first bring back some thoughts about what could have been.
With that, we turn to Bobby Moynihan, who was the unfortunate victim of having site hilarious take on Guy Fieri cut out of “Weekend Update” following the dress rehearsal for the show. It’s a shame that this sketch never managed to air on the show, since it may actually be funnier than two out of three “interviews” between Seth Meyers and a guest on the show (with the sole exception being the cameo by Chris Christie). This interview was also perfectly-timed considering how a certain New York Times food critic recently trashed Fieri’s new restaurant located in Times Square, which Guy himself has defended as a work in progress. You can check out the video for this below, so long that you are at least living in the United States.
Meanwhile, we also have some more news coming to us courtesy of TV Guide; Kenan Thompson may be going in the direction of such former cast members as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and transitioning from the sketch show straight onto a primetime sitcom. The show would feature Thompson as Kenan Monroe, a New York City-dweller who moves to this suburbs in order to live with his in-laws. As you would probably expect, the show will turn very much into a reverse sort of “Beverly Hillbillies” from there (though “Suburgatory’ may actually be a more apt comparison).
The premise for this show is hardly original, but Thompson is the sort of actor who could get this script commitment turned into a full-fledged pilot and later series. He may not be everyone’s favorite “SNL” cast member, be he has a devoted following of people young and old, especially thanks to his history on Nickelodeon with “Kenan & Kel.” With this in mind, it would be a crime against humanity if Kel Mitchell does not show up on this show in any capacity.
What do you think about this video, and about the idea of Kenan starring in his own show?
