‘Shark Tank’ preview: Corks away!
“It’s like a booze cruise with bad theater.” If these are the first words that come out of Kevin O’Leary’s mouth to you on “Shark Tank,” you know that you may not be in for the best time ever. However, if there is one think that can change Mr. Wonderful’s mind, it’s money … and the guys behind Corks Away have proven their mettle on the high seas.
The presentation these two guys give to the sharks is entertaining, but also a little bit cheesy as they introduce you to the concept of their business: a brief boat tour where you are able to take a relaxing trip while sample some fine wine while eating a variety of snacks. The basic premise behind the product definitely seems to be “service with the smile,” and the guys are definitely proving that this can potentially be a successful business.
However, there is one question about this business that still we struggle with: how mainstream really is a private wine tour? The basic premise seems to be awfully 1%, and most of these people would be wealthy enough to go on some of their own boats. Therefore, the idea behind this business is to make it appealing enough for the middle class, while still providing an experience that makes you feel like you are sitting aboard one of Diddy’s yachts. It may be best as a seasonal adventure, similar to how many people often opt to take horse-drawn carriage rides during the holidays to look at Christmas lights.
We could see the investors going either way with this product, but what we are really hoping for the episode as a whole is that it differentiates itself from some of the issues that have bogged down “Shark Tank” of late, including sob stories, celebrity guests, and a ridiculous endorsement deal with T-Mobile that goes against the entrepreneurial nature of the show.
Do you think Corks Away will get an investor during the episode?
