NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Trevin Hunte and Bryan Keith show off a soulful side

The VoiceTonight on “The Voice” the remaining top twelve contestants battled it out in hopes of getting one step closer to landing the coveted top spot as the season 3 winner. While there are a few singers that really stand out as strong contenders to take home the winners crown, it’s still anybody’s game as the voting is now up to America and you can never really tell how fans will vote.  With the new twist this season, where there is no guarantee that there will be one singer from each team singing in the finale anymore, the competition is bigger then ever before between not only the singers, but also the coaches to get one of their artists to the end.

Team Blake: Michaela Paige kicked off the show tonight singing “Blow Me One Last Kiss” and while it seemed like it could be the perfect song for her, the Pink track felt lost on her as soon as she started singing. Cassadee Pope pushed herself vocally with Kelly Clarkson’s song “Behind These Hazel Eyes”.  She rocked it out and Blake gave her a standing ovation, looking like a proud papa. Scottish rocker Terry McDermott went with “More Then A Feeling” as his song of choice and although the track has a pretty large vocal range in it, Terry rose to the occasion and did fairly well.

Team Christina: Dez Duron was first up for Christina and he gave us a very soulful performance of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”. He had a great performance and worked the stage like a pro, but we suspect that even if he bombed tonight this cutie will likely be voted to stay in the competition if the female fans have anything to say about it. Adriana Louise took on Carrie Underwood’s “Good Girl” and while she looked like she had a lot of fun on stage, there were a few spots in the song she seemed to have  a little trouble with. Sylvia Youcoub picked a big song with Celine Dion’s hit song “My Heart Will Go On”, but with her strong gorgeous voice it was a good fit and she had no problem owning it.

Team Cee Lo: Cody Belew picked a big song with Tina Turner’s hit “The Best”.  He gave the song a valiant effort, but covering anything by Tina Turner is likely going to swallow you whole since no one can really sing like her and unfortunately Cody couldn’t hold his own with this song. Trevin Hunte took on “When a Man Loves a Woman” and he really went all out with his performance, pushing his voice to that very special place that very few singers can get to and completely blew all of the judges away. Nicholas David and his epic beard sang “The Power of Love” and as usual his performance was a lot of fun to watch, especially because he was accompanied by a fairly sizable brass section that seemed to push him higher.

Team Adam: Amanda Brown tried her luck with the song “Spectrum” and although her performance wasn’t perfect, the song was a great choice to showcase her big bold voice.  Bryan Keith sang Amy Winehouse’s single “Back To Black” and his rendition had a fabulous Frank Sinatra, crooner feel to it, making it by far one of the greatest performances of the night. When it came to Melanie Martinez she decided to sing “Cough Syrup” and although she gave a great performance the song felt like a fairly safe choice for her and didn’t blow us away.

Who do you think is the current favorite to win “The Voice” season 3? We want to hear from you below, and you can also read up on some of the results from this past week here.
