AMC. Netflix close to bringing ‘The Killing’ back to life

In today’s news of “TV stories we never thought we would be reporting,” it is starting to look as though “The Killing,” despite once looking dead as a doornail, may now be getting a setting life. To make matters even more interesting, it is all courtesy of a new deal that has been worked out with a company that has been getting more and more into the original programming business as of late: AMC.

According to a new report from Deadline, 20th Century Fox TV, who produces the show, has been relentless when it comes to finding it a new place to call home really ever since the news first came down that it would be canceled after just two seasons on the air. Strangely, the negotiations with Netflix have brought it back to AMC, and the two parties are now close on a deal that will get the show back for a third season. Showrunner Veena Sud also presented a strong pitch for what she would want to see in a third season, and this helped to turn the tide.

This news is far from official at this very moment, but it still seems to be a strange decision for AMC (who is airing the series before Netflix receives it) to make. Why? The Rosie Larsen case is over, and we have a feeling that there were many people who stuck it out through season 2 just to see what was going to happen here. Now that this answer is out in the open, it is not entirely clear what other story there is to tell … especially one that will get viewers hooked all over again. Then again, AMC could use another series in their lineup at the moment since “Breaking Bad” is ending, “Hell on Wheels” is in showrunner chaos behind the scenes, and the only other original scripted shows at the moment are the monster known as “The Walking Dead” along with “Mad Men.”
