‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ spinoff being planned via backdoor pilot
If there is one thing that CBS has done a stellar job at over the years, it is finding a way to link one part of the “NCIS” franchise to the next. The original show starring Mark Harmon was introduced during a two-part episode of “JAG” all the way back in 2003, and then a few years back the network introduced “NCIS: Los Angeles” during a special episode of the flagship show.
So what is the next logical step here? Introducing another spin-off that is coming to us via the Los Angeles show. Multiple sources have confirmed that at some point next year, we will see a two-part backdoor pilot that revolves around a team of agents who not only go across the country to solve crimes (which sounds somewhat like the FBI), but they also live and work together. Can you imagine the tension that comes with that? If nothing else, this sort of format would probably not yield a romance that took as long to build as Tony and Ziva.
Hopefully, some more details about this project will become apparent as time goes by, including the actors who could be starring in the project. While CBS has had a number of other successes in spinning off successful franchises (just look at all of the “CSI” shows for a prime example of that), there have also been some failures. “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” was canceled after only a few short episodes on the air, and there are other ideas that are thought about in development even though they never end up coming to fruition.
What do you think about the idea of an “NCIS: Los Angeles” spin-off show, and do you think that the prospect is there for great success?
