‘Downton Abbey’ season 3 finale spoilers: What to expect

The end is almost about here for “Downton Abbey” season 3, but you have to believe that the series is going to go out with a bang … and this is further proven by some last-minute details that are coming in about this very episode.

According to a new report from Digital Spy, there are going to be a number of shocking moments that transpire during this episode, and none of them will be limited to any one character. For example here, we are going to learn that Mary is keeping a secret from someone during this episode … and it’s Matthew. Who would have imagined that given the oft-romantic history of these two characters? The conflict between these two is eventually going to come out of this, though Matthew may be preoccupied with the state of the Abbey for the time being.

As for some of the employees downstairs, Thomas may receive help from an unlikely person to help resolve the Jimmy situation, though it may come with some unintended promises. We are also going to see O’Brien become once again the revengeful woman that she was for much of the show, and Alfred is going to take some sort of stand against someone else in the cast.

Finally, we’ll close things off with some scoop about Tom Branson, who has surprisingly become the focus of much of this season: he is going to be making a decision about the future of Baby Sybil within the hour episode. While on the surface it may seem like growing up at Downton would be a great way for her to live and be raised, there is also a question of if she will be happy there. If staying with his brother in Liverpool could actually be an even more loving situation for her, that may be a better option, surprising as it sounds. After all, Downton is a stressful place courtesy of the state of the Abbey and the quarrels between the servants.
