‘The X Factor’ UK: Lucy Spraggan quits competition over illness
Just as we said during our “X Factor” UK rankings piece on Friday, we weren’t sure if Lucy Spraggan was even going to be performing this weekend, and this was our justification for putting her in last place. Now, that prediction has unfortunately officially come to fruition.
Ultimately, you have to respect Lucy’s decision to withdraw from the competition, mostly because she is completely aware of the fact that it would not be fair for her to accept another free pass to move forward in the process, especially when so many other singers have been working tirelessly day in a day out. Here is the full statement from her about her decision:
“I am gutted not to be able to continue on this journey but I’m not well enough to perform. To accept another free pass having missed last weekend would not be fair on the others in the competition. I wish them all well. I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has supported me. There is no way that this setback will prevent me from fulfilling my ambition. You’ll be hearing from me again very soon.”
This will likely be a major blow to the competition itself, mostly because Lucy was considered to be one of the favorites to at least make it to the final four or five, if not even the finale thanks to her original music and quirky personality. Her exit also leaves Tulisa Contostavlos with just one team member left in Ella Henderson. Who would’ve thought that Tulisa’s team would be so whittled down at this point in the competition?
Do you think it was the right decision for Lucy to leave the competition now, or would you have much preferred the show to give her another pass until she is well?
