The Blacklist season 7: Is Neville Townsend the ultimate Big Bad?

So what do we know at the moment? We know that Katarina is the Big Bad at the moment, but we also know simultaneously that she’s not even a Big Bad in some ways. Is she a victim of circumstances and betrayal? She’s far from a saint, but she’s also lived in hiding and with her life in danger because of the Townsend Directive. We also know that the person at the center of said directive is Neville Townsend, whose name was uttered in context of the Belgrade storyline. We don’t even know if this character is alive in the present, but it does seem as though his kill bounty is at the core of everything that is going on with the show.
So while we may not be getting too many more clues about Neville himself, it does seem like the mythology around him will keep building. In a new interview right now with Entertainment Weekly, here is what executive producer Jon Bokenkamp had to say on the subject:
What we’re also building toward is the truth behind the show. What Katarina is after is at the heart of what the show is about. It unlocks everything. There are big clues that have been laid out there that as they’re starting to fall into place. The promise of what is to come is the ultimate endgame, which we are marching toward and Katarina is incredibly close to. I think that’s super exciting.
Given that Katarina is seemingly after the Townsend Directive and a way to stop it, it does feel in the end that this is where we’re going moving into the endgame of this series. We’ll just have to wait and see how the journey leads to that point.
