Watchmen season 2 renewal: Is it possible at HBO?
To say that this is a complicated situation is putting it mildly and then some. Just think about it like this — we’re looking at a complicated comic-book adaptation featuring a prolific showrunner and a high-profile network in HBO. It looks reasonably high-budget, and that only adds to more questions in regards to the series’ future.
Now, there is one other thing to wonder about at the moment when it comes to the ratings — are they good enough to ensure that there is another season happening at HBO? That is something that is definitely up for debate at the moment. So far through the first season, Watchmen is averaging almost 740,000 live viewers — those aren’t incredible numbers, but they’re solid for HBO. It’s also worth noting that this past episode is the most-watched one that we’ve seen for the series to date. Of course, all of these numbers balloon outward when you consider the network’s HBO NOW and HBO GO streaming services, plus DVR recordings and repeat viewings.
Where we are going with this at the moment is rather simple — Watchmen is a show that is far more popular than the ratings will show, and it’s also critically-acclaimed and loved by a lot of people all over the world. We know when the series first premiered, there were all sorts of questions regarding whether or not we would see it live up to the high bar that was set by the source material. Yet, since that time it has proven itself to be a rather fantastic program in its own right. It’s not trying to just mimic the story of the graphic novel or the movie, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s working so well.
Hopefully, we are going to get a whole lot more news on the series’ future over the next few weeks — it’s something that we’re keeping our eyes peeled for at the moment, for sure.
