The Expanse season 5 premiere date hopes on Amazon
Let’s start things off, though, by dishing out a reminder that The Expanse is, in fact, coming back for another season. After fans of the show previously had to face permanent cancellation (thanks to Syfy for that) before Amazon picked it up, the streaming service obviously doesn’t want to make you go through that again. With this in mind, we’re going to have a chance to see more new episodes beyond this upcoming journey to a new world — a place filled with new mysteries and characters.
What does make the early season 5 renewal so useful is that it means, theoretically, that new episodes could arrive around a year from now — or, at the latest potentially, the first few months of 2020. One of the challenges with being a streaming show is that it’s often harder to scale out your episode air dates since all of them need to be ready at once. There are a lot of big-time challenges, but we think that a show like The Expanse is more than capable of meeting some of those head-on and delivering the goods. Even if we do have to wait longer than a year, we definitely believe it will be worth it.

As for a possible season 6, we imagine that some of that will have to do with how well the show performs this go-around. Clearly, Amazon was happy enough with their streaming numbers from the first three seasons to order a season 5, but it’s a different story when you start being the exclusive home for new episodes. What they see this year will tell them a great deal about whether or not there’s another batch coming.
