Castle Rock season 3: Is it renewed, canceled at present by Hulu?
Let’s go ahead and get the bad news out of the way now — there is no confirmation that another season is coming. We know that Castle Rock does generate plenty of buzz for the streaming service — not only that, but Lizzy Caplan’s performance is one of the most underrated of the entire year.
So while there may not be all that much in the way of confirmation on the show’s future, we at least know this — the powers-that-be behind the scenes are at least interested in keeping things going one way or another. Speaking in a new interview with Collider, show executive producer Dustin Thomason had the following to say:
…The plan was always to have an interconnected set of stories and, while every season would be its own launching point, there would be this fabric of Stephen [King’s] multiverse, if you will, that always bubbled beneath it, and a unity to the stories that existed … When we get to Season 3, I hope that there will a continuation of what we’ve done in [Season 2] and an expansion, and the audience will start to feel that there was a plan from the beginning.” So even though the trailer for the Season 2 finale below claims, “It all ends here,” that doesn’t mean it’s really the end of Castle Rock.
Knowing Hulu and the exclusives that they should want to keep close to the vest, there will be another season of Castle Rock coming. Why end it now when there are more stories that could be told, and more money that Hulu could make from them? This at least feels to us like a best-of-both-worlds sort of situation that they would want to take advantage of to the best of their ability.
If we do get another season of Castle Rock, the earliest we could expect it is at some point in late 2020 … but given how long it takes to make shows these days, a 2020 premiere date could be a little more feasible.
