Moving into His Dark Materials episode 6, the stakes have never been higher for Lyra, and for many reasons. Take, for example, the fact that she has been captured, and she’s starting to see what the Gobblers are up to. What they are do is “science” — measuring Dust, and figuring out what happens when you take Daemons away. They are doing, in their mind, something akin to “sacrifice” for the sake of the greater good.

Let’s just make it clear: We don’t agree with what Mrs. Coulter are any of the Gobblers are doing. Yet, we can’t exactly do all that much in order to intervene from the outside looking in. We just have to watch from the outside, enjoy the journey, and have some hope that someone will help Lyra. We know that, in the interim, she’s going to do her best in order to help herself. That includes her trying to mount some sort of epic escape. This isn’t going to be easy — the facility is heavily guarded, and that’s without even mentioning the fact that it is so very separated from just about everything.
This is the episode that tests Lyra’s mettle, let alone the humanity that exists with some of the other characters. What happens here will play out in the final couple of episodes in the season … and we know that there isn’t all that much in the way of time to wrap certain things up. (Yes, we know that there’s a season 2 already ordered — but there are certain things that need to be checked off before the series gets there.)
There are certain characters who aren’t even showed off in this promo — here’s to hoping that they are still finding a way to get involved.
