Fuller House season 5 premiere: How was Michelle referenced?

Fuller House

Fuller House season 5 is the final season for the show on Netflix and with that in mind, we do think the writers are thinking with nostalgia in mind. How else do you explain something as iconic as Rigby the Rhino showing up in the premiere episode?

The cameo from Rigby, the subject of an especially-memorable episode from late in the original series’ run, came courtesy of some of the modern-day kids rummaging through the attic. That is where the Michelle character was referenced, and also where Max mentioned that he’d seen Rigby through the eight years of “home movies” that exist out there about DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy’s earlier years.

What was the show trying to do here? It’s one of the only ways that they can nod towards Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen since the two are not going to appear anytime soon. It’s probably one of the most-frequent questions that the cast and crew get on the show and for a while, they did their best to entertain it. At this point, though, they’ve basically admitted that they’ve given up on the idea, noting that the Olsen Twins have expressed no interest in coming back and to have false hope on it at this point is a giant waste of everyone’s time.

Maybe there will be a surprise appearance in the series finale in 2020 … but for now, we doubt it.

As for what else the premiere episode showcased, Stephanie revealed that her and Jimmy’s daughter is named Danielle Jo — with the first name being a nod to Danny Tanner and the initials being a nod to DJ. It’s such a sweet reminder of what the two characters mean to her and it fits in perfectly with the wholesome tone and attitude that this series has a tendency to bring to the table time and time again. The upcoming episodes will feature, most likely, some of Stephanie as a new mom — while also some wedding-planning given that she and Jimmy are looking to tie the knot. In the premiere, Jimmy went ahead and got Danny’s blessing, even if he’d already proposed and it was largely a moot point.
