Chicago Fire season 8 spoilers: Are characters from the past returning?

We’ve already had one Chicago Fire throwback in season 8 in the form of Gabby Dawson, so is it possible that some others will join her? At the moment, we certainly wouldn’t rule that out!

As a matter of fact, this is something that show executive producer Derek Haas noted in a post on Twitter! Here, he noted that there will be “several characters” in the second part of this season who you haven’t seen in a while. As for who some of them could be, we imagine that a number of them could be family members to the firehouse crew we’ve already come to know and love. Meanwhile, a few others could be former friends or one-time recurring players. We don’t get a sense that Dawson is returning anytime soon, but we do believe that the door is always open for her — that is something that Haas himself discussed when we spoke to him after the fall finale.

Of course, there is a pretty-clear first order of business at the moment following the events of said fall finale: Making sure Severide is okay and is able to withstand what’s going on with the contract arsonist. After that, we’re sure that the writers can drift the story over to some other fun directions, especially now that there’s also more closure on Otis with us getting to see him one more time.

Chicago Fire season 8 isn’t even at the halfway point just yet — that means that the door is very much open for a lot of other different surprises to come through. Let’s just hope that they can live up to the drama and the surprises we’ve gotten for most of the fall. Not all of these returning characters need to be jaw-droppers; we’re fine if it’s just a nice little swim in a pool of One Chicago nostalgia.
