Fuller House season 5: Star on emotional farewell, franchise future

Fuller House

We’re excited for the Fuller House season 5 premiere on Netflix next week — in the end, how could we not be? We’re getting a chance to inch another step closer to the series’ endgame, and we’re sure that there’s a lot of big stuff to come along with that.

With this being said, though, it’s also not lost on us how emotional parts of this farewell are going to be. It’s challenging having to sit here and say goodbye to some of these characters and this lighthearted world … though the good news is that it’s not something that is going to be happening right away. There are two different halves of the season, with the first part premiering December 6 while the second half will kick off in the new year.

One thing that we can say with some certainty now is simply this: It’s not going to be easy to say goodbye to either this show or these characters. Speaking in a new interview with People Now, here’s what Candace Cameron Bure (DJ) had to say about waving the series off into the sunset:

“It was quite an emotional day. I’m so proud of the last episode. I know the fans are going to love it … It was so much harder to say goodbye the second time around.”

So what about the future beyond season 5? We know that Netflix is ending the series soon, but there’s already been chatter (at least among the cast) of doing something else within the world. John Stamos himself has talked about it! We don’t know what form it would take or what the show would look like, but it’s at least something to have on the radar. It’s also something that Bure joked about in this same interview:

“Fullest House. We’re all down … I would love to [do] the Golden Girls version. We’d have to wait a few years — we’re not old enough yet!”

Given the success of Fuller House as a multigenerational sitcom, we don’t exactly think that there’s any reason that the show has to go away forever. As a matter of fact, we’re hoping that there are some opportunities to see it resurface in some shape or form down the line. Time will tell on that…
