Outlander season 3 coming to Netflix in December!

In the midst of all of the headlines that were out there about Outlander season 5 wrapping up production, there may have been one that slipped through the cracks. As a matter of fact, it’s one that we personally did not discover until we were fiddling around on Netflix last night — season 3 will be coming to the streaming service, sooner rather than later.

To be specific, Outlander season 3 is going to be premiering on Netflix come December 10. We feel like this date is well-timed in that it will build up more excitement for season 5 on February 16 — granted, season 5 is premiering on Starz rather than Netflix, but we think this can be mutually beneficial.

Overall, we think the hope here if you are Sony and Starz both is that these seasons will inspire viewers to go and check out Outlander’s television home, subscribe, and then watch season 5 as it is happening. Not only that, but we also imagine that there’s a clear desire here to ensure that viewers also have at least one season before season 5 that they’ll need Starz in order to see. We feel like if the network has any overarching concern, it’s likely this: They want to make sure that Outlander remains known more as a Starz show rather than a Netflix one. (We know that Showtime has had some concerns about this over time with Shameless.) If Outlander viewers are content with waiting for season 5 to premiere on Netflix rather than subscribing to Starz for it, we’re not sure that this is something every wants. That’s probably not the goal of this little experiment.

In the end, we’re just happy that more viewers are going to have a chance to check out what is one of the most exciting seasons of the show. There are massive time jumps, new characters, and even a journey across continents for Jamie and Claire season. It’s as epic a batch of episodes as you are going to find.
