American Idol 18: Layla Spring wins fan vote during DWTS finale

American Idol

Last night on the American Music Awards, there were opportunities to see a number of American Idol contestants fight to get back in the competition.

How did this work? As we first reported, Logan Johnson, Shawn Richardson, and Layla Spring all auditioned for a chance to get back to Hollywood and move forward in the competition. Voting has been open since Sunday and on tonight’s finale, one of them had a chance to get the Golden Ticket to Hollywood.

In the end … well, you know what happened. You read the title for this article! Layla is going to be moving forward! Of course, there’s no guarantee that Layla is going to make it super-far in the competition based on this. Yet, this is a major step in the right direction for her and it should be a nice boost of confidence.

Of course, Dancing with the Stars felt like a little bit of an unusual venue to announce this. After all, Tom Bergeron was joined by the three contestants and then judge Lionel Richie, who made the announcement official. It was probably just strange to us more than anything because we’re so used to watching DWTS and American Idol air on different networks — we’re not sure we’ll ever get used to the change. (Of course, we should also point out that the presence of Idol on the ABC schedule is now one of the big reasons why we’re not getting new episodes of Dancing with the Stars in the spring.)
