Anne with an E canceled; season 3 will be last on CBC, Netflix
There is some bad, and rather unexpected, news coming out today in regards to Anne with an E. After all, it appears as though the third season will be the end of the road.
Here’s how shocked we are by this news — just one day ago, we wrote a piece expressing some confidence in the future of the series. After all, it has a passionate social-media following, especially when you consider the fact that this is a period drama series that, in some ways, has been adapted already. It goes to show the continued popularity of the Anne of Green Gables source material — it’s a rare example of a program that is appealing to viewers of all ages, and it may actually inspire viewers to check out more stories from the era. How many shows do that?
As for the reason for the series ending, it’s often hard to discern that — though we know that Netflix has a habit in general of ending shows around their third or fourth season. They in particular just have such an enormous cache of programming that they don’t need to retain shows for a long period of time. CBC, however, has shown more of a willingness to keep programs for a long time — check out Heartland as an example. We have to think that this decision may have been a collaborative one rather than one that was made solely by CBC. Shows that are produced and run by multiple countries are often complicated — and such may be the case here.
In a post on Instagram below, you can see what Moira Walley-Beckett has to say about the news. We’ll be holding out still for a renewal…
What do you think about Anne with an E being over at Netflix/CBC?
