The unfortunate news at the moment is this: There is no verification on the show’s future for the time being. That’s a shame, given just how much of a demand there is for some more episodes. This is a show that combines a number of elements that are familiar and comforting. Take, for example, the thirst that people have out there for nostalgia. This is a franchise, dating back to Anne of Green Gables, that has been rather popular for a long time. There’s been multiple iterations and the material is so beloved, no matter how it ends up being told.
Oh, and there’s also this: The fact that people love this particular genre in general. Coming-of-age stories are always popular, and then you also throw in here the fact that it’s set within an era that harkens back to simpler times. What we’re trying to say is this: There are a lot of reasons to bring this show back. It’s popular on CBC and then, beyond that, popular in other places all over the world. We think there are a lot of reasons to anticipate that it could be coming back for more.
For the time being, the biggest thing that we would profess is simply this: Patience. It may take some time for another batch of episodes to be ordered, since it could depend a lot of global performance and viewership after the fact. Yet, even with all of this in mind and spelled-out, we’re still feeling rather confident that there will be some good news eventually. There was definitely enough material left open at the end of season 3 for the writers to take on as we inch closer to season 4. (Also, consider how upset viewers would be if the show ended — there were some social-media campaigns to get it renewed for a season 3 in the first place.)
As for when a potential season 4 could air, let’s hope for at some point in 2020. Otherwise, it’ll feel like way too long of a wait!
