Outlander season 6 premiere date: What we’re hoping for

Earlier this week, Outlander season 5 officially wrapped up on Starz … and that is, of course, a cause for great rejoicing. The cast and crew get a break, and now we just have to wait until February 16 in order to see new episodes air. While that may seem like a long time at the moment, we’re crossing our fingers and hoping that it will just blow by.

For the sake of this article, though, what we’re doing is rather simple: Starting to look more ahead towards season 6 and when that could premiere based on some of the information that we know now.

If you hadn’t heard the news already, Outlander season 6 could start filming as soon as April or May — though there no particular start date just yet. If the scripts can be ready by then, it makes sense for production to start rolling. Then, if that’s the case, we can start to get a better sense of when season 6 could premiere. Typically, this show takes around seven or eight months to film — if it starts in May 2020, it could be done by the end of the year.

For now, the earliest we would imagine Outlander season 6 coming on the air is at some point around February or March 2021 … though we could also see an April start date as a possibility. Originally, we didn’t think that the show would be able to come on until summer 2021 at the earliest, but that was before Starz did something rather remarkable — premiere season 5 earlier than we expected. That’s the first time in a while that they have actually exceeded some of our expectations in terms of when the show comes on the air, and it’s a rather nice thing to have. It’s a testament to the way that they are turning around episodes now in production, plus Starz understanding the demand that is out there.

Of course, we won’t know too much more regarding Outlander season 6 for a while — we still have another season to be excited for first! Just consider this something to have on your radar for the time being.
