The Good Doctor season 3 episode 9 promo: Claire’s struggle gets worse

Claire Browne

Next week’s The Good Doctor season 3 episode 9 is going to feature a struggle for Claire — and it’s certainly not one that she imagined.

Ever since losing her mother, we’ve seen the character have a hard time finding something stable to grasp onto. She hasn’t acted like herself, and a recent one-night stand is about to come back to bite her. She’s gone from being with someone to seeing them turn up at the hospital within this episode … and also recognize that this man is actually married and has a family. She’ll have to reconcile her own personal history with the patient as she works in order to save his life. That’s difficult, even more so than we can ever describe. It’s a hard thing to be able to turn off this part of your brain, no matter who you are or what your profession is. The majority of patients doctors work with are, of course, ones that they don’t have any sort of personal connection to.

By the end of this episode, it’s absolutely possible that Claire will start to view all of this as a wake-up call. This could cause her to view her life a little bit differently and also lean on her friends a little bit more. It’s okay to need support, and recognize that an event like losing a parent is going to stick with you. It doesn’t matter what your job is.

To go along with this story about Claire, the saga of Shaun and Carly is also going to continue. They’ve struggled with intimacy and, unfortunately, some of their problems are far from over. At the moment, it’s hard to tell if this is a relationship that will make it out of season 3 or not. It’d be nice to see Shaun grow from this experience, no matter what happens … but we don’t want to see either his or Carly’s heart smashed into pieces along the way.
