Outlander season 5: Caitriona Balfe teases material to come
One of the things that does make Outlander as a series so exciting is that in their own way, every single season is different. It never feels like you’re seeing the same thing one season after the next and there’s something that is kind of delightful about that. Even though the setting for season 5 is the same in North Carolina, there are a lot of other different dynamics and struggles at the core of the story.
In speaking about some of this more — and then also the longevity of the show — with Collider, here is some of what Caitriona had to say:
It’s funny, we’ve all started to definitely feel that we’re in a very privileged place with the show, that it’s running this long, that it still has an audience, and that the audience seems to be growing, and they’re still invested. What we’ve really loved about filming this season is that we’ve found ways to continue to push the boundaries. For Claire, towards the end of the season, I have some really challenging material, and that’s so lovely to get, so deep into a series. As seasons go on, you plateau and you’re not doing things as interesting, but we really do still push the boundaries, and that’s great, as an actor.
Caitriona getting to push the boundaries more is ultimately a great thing for both her and the series itself, given that her performances already have brought in multiple Golden Globes. Given how many challenges get thrown Claire’s way, Outlander needs someone with the chops and the commitment to shine. Luckily, Caitriona does that time and time again.
