On Sunday, February 9, brace yourselves for the premiere of Homeland season 8. This is a season that will hopefully offer up some chances at closure, but along the way will remind us of the dangers that still exist for Americans all over the world.
there is admittedly an argument to be made that Homeland, as a series, is almost forgotten about in 2019 and we understand why. The last season premiered over a year ago, and there will always be those that argue that what is “new” is therefore fresher and more relevant. Yet, we would also make the argument that Homeland is, as a series, one of the most topical programs that is out there. It’s had an eerie ability over the years to look towards the future, and while it hasn’t necessarily offered up perfect solutions, it’s come up with ones that work in some ways for the show’s own individual world.
Homeland season 8 is set to revolve overall around Carrie Mathison finding a new way to use her skills in Afghanistan, one where Saul (now as National Security Adviser) is working to end a longstanding conflict. The problem is that this iteration of Carrie is suffering from memory loss, which is going to lead the series to asking one of the same questions that it’s long projected outward — can she be trusted? This brings us back to the days of Nicholas Brody from so many years ago. We do think that Claire Danes’ character wants the best for her country, but her ability to do that has also been weighed with a great deal of personal trauma, as well. Think in terms of mental-health issues, complicated relationships, and losing a lot of the people she cared about. She’s not exactly been a perfect person, but she’s one of the only people who can keep the country thriving.
Because we do still have many weeks to go until Homeland season 8 premieres, we’d go ahead and suggest that there are probably a number of other teasers and trailers coming prior to the premiere.
