‘The X Factor’ UK: Union J compares themselves to Maroon 5 over One Direction

It seems that every season on “The X Factor” these days, there seems to be a “boy band” that in some ways takes the country by storm. One of the first ones to do so was JLS, and then that rose to a whole new level courtesy of a group in One Direction that is now bigger than any individual artist to actually win the show.

This time around, the group getting most of the screams from the young ladies (even if they were in the bottom two this was week) is none other than Union J, who despite some of the obvious comparisons, really don’t seem particular interested in comparing themselves to Niall Horan and the rest of the One Direction boys at all. Speaking on this subject per Heat Magazine, here is what band member Josh Cuthbert had to say on the subject:

“Um, we’re a four-piece, they’re a five…No we do different music. We’re just different. They’re very young-poppy. We’re a bit like Maroon 5.”

Even with this being said, Cuthbert did say that Union J would be more than thrilled to have a career even remotely on the same level as the British superstars:

“I’m not sure it’s possible to be any bigger than One Direction, but that would be amazing- that would be the dream.”

At the moment, this Union is definitely going to have to step it up if they want to stay in the competition as long as the boy band, especially as they were not in the bottom two once in the entire season leading up to their third-place finish back in season 7. Ironically, they have sold more records than the winner Matt Cardle and runner-up Rebecca Ferguson combined.

Do you think that it is unfair to compare any boy band from any reality show to One Direction?
