Shameless season 11 renewal possible at Showtime, boss confirms
Speaking in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer John Wells noted that he doesn’t have any interest in concluding the series, even despite losing Emmy Rossum at the end of this past season. Not only that, but lead William H. Macy still seems eager to come back for more:
“I never like to approach the end of a show that is character-based. We’ll probably do a season 11, and [William H. Macy] has said he’d do that … I’d make this show forever because it’s about life and income inequality. Few people are telling those stories. We have oddly moved into the zeitgeist of what is actually being discussed in the country.”

A part of the funny thing about Shameless, at least to us, is that you could make a case for another five years of this universe. Even if the main show does end, there are cases to be made for spin-offs featuring any number of the characters highlighted here. The themes and the story would be almost as relevant as ever, and there is almost a timeless quality to what this show does. It’s so unbelievably low-stakes compared to about 95% of all television out there and yet somehow, it works time and time again. As Wells notes, the series has found a way to be both topical without also steering into the territory of being overtly political. This is the sort of thing that the vast majority of TV shows out there could only dream of doing. More often than not, they’re just not capable of pulling it off for one reason or another.
Rest assured, we’re eager to view the premiere overnight and get a larger sense of how the story flows. To go along with that, we’ll be breaking down the season in video form.
