This is true fantasy in a way we don’t see on television all that often, one with grand adventure, memorable characters, and awesome animals all over the place. We’ve also got a great cast led by James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson.
Yet, in the end, this is Lyra’s journey more so than anyone. She’s a young girl destined for so much more, and in episode 2, she’s going to get a chance to experience much of this world alongside a new companion in Mrs. Coulter. Is she exactly what she seems? Maybe that will be one of many things that is revealed during this particular installment.

We know that a show like His Dark Materials is no easy task, largely because you have to find a way to balance out trying to tell a great story for new fans and old fans alike. There are going to be book fans who want individual moments showcased, and maybe the series is going to benefit from having all of this extra time that The Golden Compass as a movie did not. It’s got a little bit of time in order to tell a great story, and we hope that there’s a chance in the end to get as far into the books as possible.
Oh, and we’re also hoping that the show is just as big of a hit in America as it was in Great Britain.
