The Blacklist season 7: Harry Lennix on Blacklister ties to Katarina Rostova

As fantastic as Friday night’s new The Blacklist season 7 episode “Kuwait” was, it did not necessarily do much to answer some of season 7’s central questions. Take, for example, what Katarina Rostova is after in relation to Raymond Reddington … and what happens in the event she gets it. It appears on the surface that she is looking to get information on the Townsend Directive, a kill order that she obviously wants to avoid. Yet, is there something else that is out there?

We know that when it comes to the Task Force, they will continue to do more of what they do best throughout the upcoming season — work in order to capture some of the most nefarious criminals in the world. It’s the sort of stuff that they excel at and, with that in mind, the sort of stuff they’ll continue to fight to do. Yet, there are often themes to the sort of criminals they go after, and we would tell you now that this is likely to be a component to what is coming up next, as well.

After all, the excellent Harry Lennix made it clear to TV Insider that, in one way or another, many of the upcoming foes this season will have some sort of tie to Laila Robins’ infamous villain:

“The most important [through-line] we know about is how they relate to Katarina Rostova … Most of the Blacklisters have some impact on what this central relationship is between Red Reddington/Ilya Koslov and Katarina Rostova because that’s really the center of our universe this season. You will see they revolve around that.”

If you’ve watched The Blacklist for many years, you’re probably familiar with the show formula already: Reddington hands the Task Force a case and, through most of the installment, you see them do what they can to stop the criminal. After that, though, it’s clear that James Spader’s character had an ulterior motive. Odds are, the Task Force will get info on Katarina throughout, but that Reddington will also inch closer to what he wants.
