Madam Secretary season 6 episode 4 sneak peek: Henry’s frustration

On Sunday night’s new Madam Secretary season 6 episode 4, there is going to be another of interesting questions worth asking. Yet, one of the most intriguing ones (at least for now) is this: How is Henry going to handle some of his duties as First Gentleman?

What we think Tim Daly’s character is going to realize throughout this story is that this role, while important, does come with its fair share of challenges. Take, for example, the fact that he has no real legislative power. He cannot vote on anything and, instead, he just has to find a way to make his voice heard and promote causes. Given that Henry is knowledgeable and has spent much of his life working within either the military or various forms of government, he’s more qualified than most to find a worthy platform.

As the sneak peek below makes it clear, it feels like the platform that Henry is angling to have is one very much tied to veterans’ affairs and making sure that these people are properly cared for. He’s doing his best to show that he cares in this scene, but he also runs across roadblocks. Is he being taken seriously? That’s one question, as is whether or not anyone is altogether interested in hearing from him at all.

We’re not shocked that Major Brad Jenkins, who is accompanying Henry in the scene, is frustrated when he feels like he’s being blown off. We get it. There have probably been people aplenty within Washington that have blown him and his fellow men and women in uniform off — at least beyond just a customary “thank you for your service.” You would think that there would be something more here but, alas, that’s not happening in the way in which it should.

Through this episode (fittingly titled “Valor”), we have a feeling that we’ll be seeing Henry do whatever he can in order to ensure that there are changes to the way that veterans are cared for. In particular, we know that he is fighting for more in the way of mental health.
