Stranger Things season 4 episode count, filming window revealed

Stranger Things 2

We know that Netflix is going to be airing a Stranger Things season 4 at some point down the road — they would be foolish not to! We’re talking about one of the biggest television series in recent history, and one that will continue to have a legacy whenever it does end.

According to a new report coming in right now courtesy of TVLine, the upcoming fourth season of the mega-hit is going to start production in January — not only that, but it will run for eight episodes. Filming should be done by the end of next summer, which means that, more than likely, it’s not coming out in 2020.

Think about things this way — we are talking here all about a show that takes a good while to get together in post-production, and for good reason. There’s a lot of important stuff that needs to happen before the story can be wrapped up. New episodes have to be properly edited, the effects need to be perfect, and they also all need to be done at the same time. The Netflix model does mean that it takes it a little bit longer to get some of the episodes out — it’s the drawback to them all being available at your fingertips right away.

As for whether or not Stranger Things 4 ends up being the final season of the series on Netflix, that does remain one of the big question marks! We don’t think that this is something that the network is eager to give all that much information on right now, either. We definitely don’t think that this is designed to be a show that lasts for some extended period of time, mostly because this is a story with such a young cast. You can only make this story and this level of zeitgeist work for so long.

As for the specific episode count, our feeling is simple — it’s however long it needs to be to suit the story.
