When Hope Calls season 2: Will When Calls the Heart spin-off be renewed?
For now, we’d love to respond by saying that we’re cautiously optimistic that the series could return — yet, at the same time, there is no guarantee of anything at this particular moment. A lot of this is going to depend heavily on a multitude of different factors, whether it be viewership, subscriptions, or just if there is more story that the network feels is worth bringing to the table.
The big reason for the mystery here is simply this — with shows like When Calls the Heart, we can gauge the viewership because ratings are released publicly. Here, that opportunity just isn’t there. When Hope Calls is its own show airing on a digital format, so the numbers are a little bit internal … creating more confusion for fans. (Granted, we’re not sure a network really wants viewers to focus on ratings — they may just want people enjoying the show and the story first and foremost.)
Ultimately, When Hope Calls is going to probably learn its fate over the next few months. The biggest reason to keep it around is simply the strength of When Calls the Heart as a brand — you know already that this show is enormously successful, and you could still use it promote this show moving forward. Also, if you want to use a show like When Hope Calls to drive subscriptions to Hallmark Movies Now, isn’t this the prime opportunity to try and use this show? You can maybe get some viewers watching some other stuff on the service after subscribing for it. We just think that, if you are starting something new like this, it benefits you to try and get your money’s worth and establish as many different stable properties as possible.
