Ready for The Blacklist season 7 episode 4? In just two days, we’re going to have a chance to learn a little bit more about Kuwait — and, most importantly, about how Cooper’s past could end up putting him into an enormous moral quagmire.

Here is what we know at the moment — at the start of this episode, Cooper will learn that someone from his past named Daniel Hutton, once presumed dead, is very much alive. This comes amidst him making another important decision — telling the powers that be within the FBI that Reddington is not who he claims to be. This is where the sneak peek below comes into play.

In this preview, Harry Lennix’s character makes it clear to Reddington that he knows his true identity of Ilya Koslov — of course, that is provided you think that Reddington really is Ilya. (We’re still on the fence about that.) Cooper’s big news is countered with Reddington predicting what his next move will be — cluing in the folks at Main Justice. Cooper says he doesn’t see any other way to resolve this situation, and Reddington then responds to that by calling him out on the irony of this situation. He feels that he and Cooper are going far out of their way in order to preserve Cooper’s secret, and the Task Force Director is not willing to do anything in order to protect his own. Cooper doesn’t see it the same way, but isn’t perception reality? Or, is it possible that Reddington’s just offering up a perception that is a means to an end?

Remember this — it benefits Reddington to keep the Task Force going. With that in mind, it also makes some sense that Cooper doesn’t spill the means. There are two fundamental questions to think about entering this episode — is Cooper malleable at all, and how far will Reddington go in order to ensure that his “identity” is not told to the wrong people? Expected great performances from Lennix and James Spader, who are consistently great in many of their scenes together.
