Outlander season 5 notes! Latest from Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin

Outlander season 4

We’re in the home stretch, Outlander fans and CarterMatt readers — there are only so many weeks of production left. There may not be a clear timeline as to when the final filming will take place, but the cast and crew should be done by the holiday season. Therefore, maybe there’s a spirit in the air of “enjoy every moment” among those on set — sure, they know that most will be back for more, but every season is different. Cast and crew members sometimes leave, and the locations and the mood can change. Have fun while you have an opportunity to have fun.

For Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton, they seem to be relishing in the opportunity to have some fun — or at least, engage in some lively on-set hijinks. In a post on Instagram below, you can see Sophie doing her part to capture a moment on set … a moment of boredom. There’s an expression in the entertainment business known as “hurry up and wait,” one where you rush to do a scene only to then stand around for an hour or two beforehand. There’s so much that needs to go into the cast filming their takes, and this leads to experiences like Richard falling over onto a production vehicle.

It’s all in good fun and humor — plus, it’s a great reminder of the relationship that these two actors have. (For some bonus scenery from Sophie, check out her Instagram Stories — it’s a reminder that their version of “North Carolina” in Scotland is as beautiful as you’re going to find.)

For a bonus behind-the-scenes tease from Rankin, he’s taken it upon himself to provide the closest of close-up teases imaginable. Is this a hint of wardrobe? Possibly, but it’s the sort of thing that constitutes a tease only because he says that it is. You can’t learn a whole lot about it, other than that Richard’s finding some ways to entertain himself during production. Remember, Outlander is filming its final season 5 episodes — do you think the cast wants to post accidental spoilers and put themselves in front of the Starz firing squad? Unlikely.

Outlander season 5 premieres on February 16, 2020.

Meanwhile, share your thoughts on these new filming teases now in the comments.
