Catherine the Great episode 2: The future for Helen Mirren miniseries

Catherine the Great

Tonight on HBO, you had a chance to witness as ambitious a project as you’re going to find in Catherine the GreatJust ponder it over for a moment here — we’re speaking all about one of the most famed rulers of all time, as played also by one of the best performers out there in Dame Helen Mirren. She just has a thing for playing people in power, and early reviews for this limited series are already through the roof.

There are a limited number of episodes out there for Catherine the Great (like we said, HBO), so the best thing that you can do is keep watching them for however long we have them. Each one of these episodes will move quite likely through important parts of her life, and the synopsis below for episode 2 indicates that. Check out some more thoughts on the subject below:

A victorious Potemkin returns from war to find Catherine preoccupied, leading the two to speak candidly about their pasts and future, while a Cossack stirs discontent among peasants in the countryside.

If there is one simple thing that we can say at the moment, it’s this — we’re bummed that this is airing on Monday nights and there wasn’t a bigger platform out there for Catherine the Great somewhere on the network. It’s not going to deliver the largest numbers while it’s on the air and instead, what we predict is going to happen here is that we’ll see the show draw more attention come awards season. It is a long time away, but we do think that this will be an instant contender for Mirren.

Let’s just put things in these sort of terms — if you are an Emmy voter, how are you not going to give a nomination to Helen Mirren? It just feels like one of those things that is absolutely a given.
