Supergirl (Kara & Lena) vs. The Blacklist (Liz & Ressler) – ‘Shiptober 2019

Welcome to ‘Shiptober 2019! Throughout the month of October, CarterMatt will be bringing you our annual tournament featuring some of best ‘ships in all of TV. What is a ‘ship? It is comprised of characters you want to see together romantically. Maybe they’re already together, or maybe they’ve never been together. It doesn’t matter. ‘Shipping is one of the most popular parts of any TV fandom, it’s super fun and this tournament is a celebration of that.

In today’s edition of ‘Shiptober, you’re going to have a chance to see the reigning champion in Kara & Lena from Supergirl do what they can to advance once more. Who is the competition this time around? Think in terms of Liz & Ressler from The Blacklist, who have had a rather impressive run through much of the competition as well. This could be an intense battle, but only one of the two ‘ships is going to get a chance in order to press onward into the final four.

Kara & Lena, Supergirl (#1 seed) – It wasn’t a secret to us entering ‘Shiptober that we would see these two be rather dominant throughout — they’ve performed so well in just about every ‘ship-related poll that we’ve done, whether it be these ones or the ‘Shipper Showdown in February. They’re coming off of another big win moving into the third round, and this victory is also coming at a big time in the show’s story. There’s a lot happening with Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor through the first half of this season, and it’s going to keep building and building for a while.

Liz & Ressler, The Blacklist (#3 seed) – Meanwhile, here we have a ‘ship that is probably at one of its most popular points of the past few years, and that may be in part based on where the story is right now. Liz & Ressler did take out Barry & Iris (a.ka. WestAllen) in a pretty impressive fashion in round 2, and that does give them a nice bit of momentum now moving forward. Yet, will they be able to capitalize off of it? That is something that we’re still going to have to figure out.
