Is Saturday Night Live new tonight on NBC? The next host is…
Unfortunately, you’re going to be waiting for a while in order to see them. There is no new episode tonight, as NBC is fulfilling what feels more or less like a longstanding SNL tradition — giving you three episodes to start off the season, followed by a brief after the fact. There will be another new episode coming up, but it’s not slated until next week. That’s when Chance the Rapper is going to come on as both a host and musical guest.

Are we wary sometimes of people coming on board with both titles? Sure, but Chance is one of those people who can pull it off. He’s immensely talented, and beyond just that he’s shown a knack for being diverse with his skill set. He can bring some music to the comedy sketches and he must be well-liked by much of the cast and crew. Typically, what we find is that the double-billing doesn’t come for people unless they’ve already either hosted or performed on the show. It’s a big responsibility to hand down to a single person and SNL wants to ensure that you’re able to handle it. It’s not about your star power; it’s more about your ability to keep the show on track.
What we expect to see from Chance moving into next weekend is a show that takes a few chances creatively, but also one that continues to be laser-focused on a number of the stories of the day. We wouldn’t be surprised if we see Harrelson back as Joe Biden again; that is one of the things that comes from him doing as good of a performance as he did at the start of the season. We’ve seen other good Bidens on SNL before, but Harrelson’s providing the laughs at the moment. Always go in the direction of the laughs, right?
Are you bummed that there is no Saturday Night Live on the air tonight?
