The Flash season 6 episode 2 sneak peek: The newspaper crisis
In the sneak peek below, what you have a chance to see here is Grant Gustin’s character doing everything within his power in order to brace for what is going to be a seismic, earth-shattering event. He’s learned now that not too long in the future, he’s going to be missing. He thought for most of the series’ run that this was years away and now, it’s staring him in the face. There is no running from the immediate future and he will have to do his best in order to contend with what is right around the corner … and that’s not going to be an easy thing for him to do.
As we dive further and further into “A Flash of Lightning,” we will have an opportunity to get a much greater sense of what the overall danger looks like for him. Barry is contemplating already getting a “second opinion” of what he’s up against beyond just what The Monitor told him. Should he really believe both him and a newspaper headline alone? Iris is encouraging him to think of some other ways, and that makes a certain degree of sense. After all, think of things like this: There was a way for the date on the newspaper to change. With that in mind, isn’t there a way for everything else to change, as well? Can’t that be possible? We like to think so, and this episode should offer up a good chance to explore that.
We know that this episode is going to feature the return of John Wesley Shipp — does that mean that Jay Garrick serves as that second opinion? That seems to be the most likely scenario, given that Jay serves as one of the few people within the Flash universe who can actually understand and relate to what Barry is doing. After all, he’s dealt with the highs and lows of being a superhero for so much longer!
