Is The Terror renewed for season 3 by AMC, canceled?
When you’re talking about the future of The Terror on AMC, one of the things that you have to consider here is that this is an anthology series. With that in mind, if there is a season 3, it’s not so dependent on what the ratings were for season 2. That’s a good thing, given that the ratings for the second season were not necessarily stellar. In terms of live numbers alone, we’re looking at a story that generated a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic on average, a pretty steep drop from where the series was for most of its first season.
Granted, you can argue that the first season had more of a well-known cast, and also a feeling of something new and different. It also had a much better timeslot. The subject matter of season 2 was important, but it did not manage to connect immediately with viewers the same way. It may be building up more of an audience after the fact courtesy of streaming numbers and DVR gains, but it’s hard to judge fully how much AMC is going to look at all of that.
In our mind, the future of The Terror comes down mostly to the idea and whether or not the network figures out a way to get the right people on board. If that happens, we’ve got a feeling that we’ll see more of it. If there isn’t a feeling that another season will work under a given set of parameters, then we’ll see the show go the way of the dodo.
No matter what happens here in the end, we’ll say this: We hope AMC sticks with historical programming. It’s important to spotlight these sort of stories … regardless of whether or not they come with a strange, supernatural twist.
