Is The Righteous Gemstones renewed for season 2? Premiere date hopes
Let’s start things off with the good news, in the event you miss it: You’re going to have a chance to see another batch of episodes in the future! This good news was confirmed by the network a little bit earlier this summer, and off of the success of a pretty solid batch of episodes. How well did they do? Think in terms of averaging over 500,000 live viewers an episode. This number increases significantly when you add in DVR figures a little bit later on down the road — after all, HBO is at this point a network that relies a whole lot more on cross-platform viewing than it does people just watching live.
In a new statement confirming the renewal of the Danny McBride series, here is some of what Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO, had the following to say:
“Danny, Jody and David are among our favorite collaborators and we’re thrilled that their take on a family comedy has been met with such enthusiasm … We cannot wait to share the next steps in the Gemstone family’s epic journey. Hallelujah!”
As for when The Righteous Gemstones season 2 is going to premiere, the safe bet is at some point either in the summer or fall of 2020. Scheduling could be one part of the process here, as is making sure that McBride and the rest of the team have the right story in front of them. One of the things that we’ve seen with HBO over time is a tendency for them to give comedies some leeway. They know that there is no real reason to rush things along; with that in mind, they’ll give the production team some time in order to figure things out.
