This Is Us season 4 episode 4 promo: Randall vs. Beth’s mother
Why is that? Well, think of it mostly in terms of this: A lot of people have had tension with their in-laws. They’ve been around your partner longer than you have so, a lot of the time, they think they know best. Whether or not they actually do is secondary, at least in their mind. They’re going to just be as proactive and as persuasive as they want to be in every given moment to enforce their thoughts.

This is where things are entering Tuesday night’s new episode, as Carol seems to have some doubts over Randall’s ability to get the job done… something that seems to very much irk Randall as a result. He seems annoyed at the suggestion that there may be something that he is incapable of doing, and because of that, he challenges Beth’s mother on it. Will this lead to more drama? It’s possible.
Our thought on this mostly is this: Randall’s feeling empowered because of his new position as Councilman. He thinks that he can take care of all sorts of problems and be that superhero that people around him need. Yet, we know that he has failed before, and we’re pretty darn sure that he will fail again. That’s just something that goes with life … but he may not fail here. He’s determined to show Carol that he won’t.
