What happens on The Good Doctor season 3 episode 4 on Monday? Let’s just put it like this — Shaun is going to face one of his biggest surgical tests ever. Why? It’s all courtesy of a new patient, one who will refuse to let anyone other than Dr. Murphy touch him.
The sneak peek below offers up a good bit of insight into the subject. In this preview, Shaun has a chance to have a conversation-of-sorts with the patient, a prominent conspiracy theorist who thinks that someone is out to get him. When the surgery that he has doesn’t stop all of his problems, he proclaims it’s because someone at the hospital is trying to poison him. Yet, Shaun’s matter-of-fact speaking appeals to him, and having Freddie Highmore’s character be the only one to touch him is, in a way, an opportunity to “reduce the variables” a little bit. Maybe this gets this patient what it is that he’s seeking … if such a thing is possible.
For Shaun, the challenge of course now becomes trying to find a way to see if there’s a way to complete this procedure and take on more responsibility than ever before. He’s got more of a job to do than ever, but here’s your reminder that not everything falls on his him. Instead, it’s also the job of the other doctors at the St. Bonaventure Hospital to have trust in him. They need to impart him with any knowledge that he needs and allow him to complete the procedure successfully. They all know that Shaun is brilliant and that he’s capable of doing this.
Of course, we also do think that this decision may not be technically made in this given moment. Remember that Dr. Lim will probably have a thing or two (or three) to say about all of this before we reach the time of the procedure. How is she going to feel about a patient dictating who can and cannot touch him? The celebrity status of this man could weigh in to a fascinating extent.
