Outlander season 5: How can Jamie & Claire show their leadership?

Outlander season 5 is a critical time in the lives of the Fraser family. They have established a home for themselves at Fraser’s Ridge, and beyond that, they’ve also built up relationships around them. They’re trusted by Murtagh, they have contacts in Wilmington, and they’ve forged better bonds with at least some local Native Americans than others.

Moving forward, they have to be prepared to embrace something new and a little different: The status of pillars. Think about the first three seasons in particular — they were constantly on the run. They struggled to find a place or time to call their home and now entering season 5, they have the home. Others must come to them.

So how can Jamie and Claire best be leaders to all of the men and women who end up in their lives? We think that there are a few ways that this will show itself through season 5.

1. Expertise – It’s a part of the benefit that comes with being older. For Jamie, he’s got experience fighting at the Battle of Culloden that should prove useful leading into the Revolutionary War. He’s survived torment, psychological trauma, and so much more. He can teach others how to fight and any battle tactics he knows — in addition to how to live off the land. Meanwhile, Claire can prove herself a worthy leader as a surgeon. In general, medics have to be critical to communities — they are the only line of defense for people in dire need.

2. Empathy – This is an underrated skill for any leader, and at this point in their lives, we think that they should have it. Sure, both have at times failed to see the world through the lens of others, but they’re more worldly perhaps than ever. they can show love for those who are close to them, even if they don’t have much of anything in common with them.

3. Resilience – If they run into a problem, they find a way past it. They don’t give up no matter the circumstance. That’s not someone other characters could realize who are just starting out in the world … or maybe haven’t found themselves with anywhere near as many problems.

4. Foresight – We’d be ridiculous to not mention this. Claire knows what’s going to happen. She can use that to steer people in the right direction — which, on paper, is one of the best ways for anyone to be a leader.

Of course, being a leader also means at times having to make hard decisions — expect plenty of that for Jamie when it comes to Murtagh in season 5.
