Outlander season 5 episode 11, written by Diana Gabaldon!
In a new post on Twitter, Diana noted that, even in the midst of writing Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, she still found the time to pen episode 11 of the upcoming season — one that is going to be filming this week! This is the penultimate episode of the season, and it’s also one that will likely prove exciting, thrilling, and stuffed full of all sorts of interesting stakes. Gabaldon knows Jamie and Claire Fraser better than anyone, let alone the entire story. She has more advance knowledge of where it’s going and with that, can plant seeds and push momentum forward in some fantastic ways.
Episode 11 of the upcoming season is likely to air at some point in late April/early May, depending on what Starz chooses to do with their airing schedule. It’s hard to get into specifics since much of it depends on how the writers’ room overall chooses to adapt The Fiery Cross. While Diana may be the author of the entire story, she does still have to work this script into both the framework of the season and TV story overall — as many have indicated, there are certainly differences.
No matter what happens with this episode, we’re excited to see it — it’s a constantly-refreshing sign to see the writers and producers of Outlander being as eager as they are to welcome in the person responsible for the show. It’s not something that every TV show/adaptation at large does. (Even for the episodes that she does not write, Gabaldon still does have plenty of input — this show is a creative and collaborative environment.)
Outlander season 5, for those who haven’t heard, premieres on Starz February 16.
