Stranger Things renewed for season 4; see announcement video

Stranger Things 2

While we’re sure that this was a foregone conclusion in so many ways, today it was made official: There will be a Stranger Things season 4!

In the video below, you can see a rather-simplistic renewal announcement for the Netflix series, one that was accompanied by the slogan of “we’re not in Hawkins anymore.” Maybe that is a teaser for what is coming up next — a small teaser, sure, but very much a teaser nonetheless. This new batch of episodes is many months away still — the earliest we foresee it happening is 2020, but it could be even later given the history of the Duffer Brothers taking their time in order to get things together.

Beyond just the story, there is a larger question worth thinking about here, as well — is there a chance that this could be the final season of Stranger Things? We think it’s at least possible, mostly because this is a show that does have a time-capsule quality in terms of some of its setting. Not only that, but there is another factor here that matters in terms of its young cast getting older. There is a limited amount of time that you can continue to tell a bunch of stories within this world and have them come across as believable. That’s a part of this world that is almost certainly being considered.

Stranger Things 3 was considered to be an enormous hit by Netflix, and we can say that even without knowing all of the individual viewing numbers. Netflix doesn’t release all of that information publicly, but the amount of promotion that they put into the end product here does give you a good sense of what they think about the property. This included everything from high-profile TV spots to even the temporary release of New Coke! If these things don’t make you think that Stranger Things is very much a big deal, we don’t know what will.
