Batwoman star Ruby Rose reveals emergency surgery after neck injury

Batwoman

We know that playing a superhero on TV requires a lot of physical commitment, and there are also plenty of risks that go into it. That is something that Batwoman star Ruby Rose has come to realize first-hand following what transpired doing a stunt on the show.

In a new post on her official Instagram, Rose revealed that earlier this year, she had a surgery to ensure that she would not become paralyzed following a neck injury that she suffered on set:

“To everyone asking about my new Pez dispenser scar on my neck… A couple of months ago I was told I needed an emergency surgery or I was risking becoming paralyzed … I had herniated two discs doing stunts, and they were close to severing my spinal chord. I was in chronic pain and yet couldn’t feel my arms.”

Rose is seemingly fine now, and she will continue to play the role of Kate Kane on the upcoming CW series — yet, we imagine that this had to be a scary moment, especially with it happening so early in the series before viewers even get a chance to see the end result. Batwoman is one of the most ambitious series on the network in years. This is a notable DC Comics character and beyond that, Rose is one of the most notable leads that we’ve seen for a CW series in years. She’s coming on the show with a pretty serious resume that includes an arc on Orange is the New Black. This show is a chance in order to ensure that the Arrowverse can continue to flourish and expand with Arrow ending this fall after its eighth season. All of these characters will be involved in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, which will air this December and could feature a lot of cool stuff … let alone some extreme danger for some of these characters.

Batwoman will premiere on The CW this October, where it will be a part of a lineup that also includes the fifth season of Supergirl. Here’s to hoping that Rose continues to recover and avoids injury throughout the remainder of her Batwoman production process.
