So what did she decide to do on the show tonight? Think in terms of “Bad Guy,” her huge hit that has torn up the charts over the past few years. She did this using a really unusual staging, one that made it look like she was performing at times on the ceiling. This is a song with a lot of tempo changes, and Eilish took advantage of that by moving around and playing with the lighting, the sound, and so much more from within her little contained performance space.
What they did for this performance was cool, and definitely a unique take on the classic SNL stage. Because we are talking here about a rather small stage, it’s hard sometimes to be able to come up with some cool ideas for what to really do there.
Second Song, “I Love You” – What made this so worthwhile was how different it was from the first song. This was haunting and simple — it was more about a small collaboration than something that relied on interesting staging or something outside the box. This was more about the music and the emotion in Billie’s voice. There was a lot of vulnerability here that may have surprised some people who aren’t altogether familiar with her music before this.
Overall, wasn’t this a nice showcase of Eilish’s versatility?
