Superstar actress Linda Porter (Myrtle) dead at 86; see co-star’s tribute

Linda Porter

Very sad news that is coming out today — the world of Superstore, in addition to all of television, has lost a great one in Linda Porter. In a new post on Twitter, series regular Ben Feldman confirmed the news with a message, and also a photo of himself and Porter working on the show.

Through more than 30 episodes of the NBC comedy, Porter played the role of elderly Cloud 9 employee Myrtle. She was one of those people who could draw an enormous amount of laughter for just a single line, and she’s also the sort of person who you wish was around for so much more. We’re sure that she will be missed dearly, just as we would hope the series would create some sort of tribute to her later on this season.

Porter’s work on Superstore never ceased, as Porter most recently appeared in the most-recent finale as her character. Beyond her work on this show, she also made appearances on a number of other comedies — think along the lines of Twin Peaks: The Return, Bunheads, The Middle, Greek, Scrubs, Gilmore Girls, and also Judging Amy. There are so many other credits that we could get into here, but eventually we’d run out of space.

She had an incredibly unique career, mostly in that she didn’t start to find fame in the entertainment business until much later in her life. She made the most of every single opportunity that she had, and judging from the tweet from Feldman, she was beloved by some of her colleagues. You don’t get more than 30 episodes on a show unless people really enjoy your company.

Our thoughts go out to Linda’s family and loved ones in the midst of what has to be an incredibly difficult time. We’re sure that even more tributes will come out in regards to her and her work over the course of the coming days. (Photo: NBC.)
