Absentia renewed officially for season 3, Will Pascoe new showrunner

Absentia

Even though the news has been out there for some time, it is now 100% confirmed — there will be an Absentia season 3.

Today, Amazon confirmed the return of the Stana Katic-led drama series to the air in 2020 — to go along with that, there is also a new showrunner behind the scenes! Will Pascoe (Orphan Black) is set to fill in the role occupied by Samantha Corbin-Miller in season 2. This marks the third showrunner in three seasons for Absentia, and what this means is that each season will largely have its own feel.

The challenge entering Absentia season 3 comes via the massive reset in Emily Byrne’s personal life. After all, season 2 brought out a shocking twist where it was revealed that Alice first got involved with Nick Durand under a false pretense and, by the end of the season, she was no longer among the living. Now, Nick and his and Emily’s son Flynn are off somewhat in the wilderness. We don’t want to imagine that this guarantees some happy family reunion, largely because this isn’t the sort of show where these sort of things come easily.

Absentia, in addition to being a hit for Amazon in America, also has a large following in other parts of the world. It’s a truly-Global series with success in Europe, Latin America, and other places. Katic (who is an executive producer on the project) brings a lot of pull to the proceedings thanks to her skills, plus her familiarity following so many seasons of Castle over on ABC.

It may be some time still before a specific Absentia season 3 premiere date is confirmed. If we had to guess, though, we would wager that new episodes will likely be released in the first half of 2020 overseas and then months later in the US. Because Amazon does have that tendency to release installments all at once, that does mean that a little bit more patience is required.
