Is Lisa O’Hare leaving New Amsterdam? Is Georgia dead?
The death of Georgia is one that is going to create enormous ripples through the remainder of the series — it’s not surprising, though, as it is the move that would best push the story moving into the future. Losing Max’s wife faces him to be more of a father and to stretch himself even thinner — and that is as a recent cancer survivor as well.

Another reason why losing O’Hare likely made more sense for the series is because of the fact that she was not a series regular on the level as some of the other characters who are on the show. Also, she was not an employee of the hospital. Because of that, it’s easier to keep the hospital environment together … but it’s not going to be easy for him moving forward. Just think about the myriad of reasons why this is. This is someone who is going to have to lean on all of these people for support, and to see if he can find himself on the other side of it. Maybe he can, but he won’t be able to do it right away.
What was so effective about the premiere overall was how it played with time, and bounced around from where we saw Max in the early going to how he was working to how he was trying to care for his baby. At times, he was even trying to pretend as though Georgia was there to make his life a little bit easier. She was a comfort for him but in a way, he now has to view her as a ghost. She wasn’t there and that is something that will take time to heal.
