The Conners season 2 episode 2 preview: ‘A Kiss is Just a Kiss’

Why is everyone getting so up in arms on The Conners season 2 episode 2? That is something Mark is going to wonder to himself. All he did was kiss his boyfriend … but it’s no secret that doing this thing can be divisive, especially in Middle America. The title in “A Kiss Is Just a Kiss” should indicate that it shouldn’t be a big deal, but what happens when higher-ups at school decide that it is? This is the central conflict for the family this time around, as they have to find a way to support Mark and make sure that there are no more issues coming his way.

Beyond just Mark’s story, though, let’s not forget that Becky is a new mother, Darlene is in a love triangle, and Jackie has to keep everyone together … which isn’t easy, given that she has a number of problems of her own that she is forced to take on.

Becky begins to doubt herself as a mom, and Mark gets in trouble at school when a picture of him and his boyfriend kissing goes viral. Meanwhile, Jackie continues to avoid her problems by keeping busy with everyone else’s on “The Conners,” TUESDAY, OCT. 1 (8:00-8:30 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (TV-PG, DL) Episodes can also be viewed the next day on ABC.com, the ABC app and Hulu.

Within this episode, rest assured that we’re anticipating a lot of comedy — though it may not sound like it once you read that synopsis. One of the most fascinating things about this show is that it starts often with a story that is rather dramatic. The comedy comes then from the jokes, the framing, and the performances from the cast. It’s not a show that washes away struggle — it hasn’t in the past, and we have a hard time thinking that it will in the future.
